HeartGard PLUS is a meaty, chewable treat that prevents heartworm disease (caused by Dirofilaria immitis) by eliminating the tissue stages of heartworm larvae. It will also treat and control roundworms and hookworms. Over a period of months, the larvae develop into adult worms that can reach up to 30 cm in length. These worms essentially clog the blood vessels of the heart and lungs, which can cause heart failure, respiratory disease, and death. Heartworm treatment for dogs is potentially dangerous and expensive so heartworm prevention is essential. Heartworm disease is seen in all mainland states of Australia. Some heartworm tablets can be difficult to administer, but HeartGard PLUS is a soft, real beef chew that dogs love. Precautions: All dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting treatment with Heartgard Plus, which is not effective against adult D. immitis. Infected dogs must be treated to remove adult heartworms and larvae before initiating a program with Heartgard Plus. Safety: Safe for use in puppies from 6 weeks of age, as well as pregnant and breeding female dogs. This product does not provide protection against tapeworm.
